Manawatu Standard. (PUBLISHED DAILY.) Suivant la verite. SATURDAY SEPT. 15, 1883. THE BUTTER AND CHEESE FACTORY.

We have devoted a. large amount of our available space m this issue to* a re» port of the proceedings, of the meeting held last night m reference to 'the estabr lishment of the Manawatu Butter and Cheese Factory, as we consider the question of 'the utmost importance to the district. We are very 1 pleased to learn that there Js every probability iof the undertaking being successfully launched. Although no systematic canvassing has yet. been done, a copsiderable number of shares has ; already been applied for.! We learn with v much satisfaction that about 240' shares have been applied for ; m Karere, and oyer 100 m the town of' Palmerston. pub it to the whole public 'to do their very utmost to make the enterprise a success. It means more for the district than they can possibly realise. Tbtt we have pointed out over and oyer again. It would fee little short of disastrous should the project come to grief. If it succeeds, as we are Convinced it j will, other fictories and sirj^Har industries will be established, and our reputation a* a producing and manufac^ tiiriug district WiU be universally acknowledged. Let every md wdual m the community e?ert himself to lend a helping hand to the undertaking. Jt I will be a co-operative jndnstry^ m the j truest sehse of the term, »i»d;th l e{ benefits accruing will be experienced m i every direction. We hope every section of the public will respond liber-

ally, and that the share list will be creditable to the spirit of - enterprise, unanimity and-progressiveness which hitherto has been characteristic of the settlers of Manawatu. We look forward with confidence to a successful consummation attending the imatory stages of what will undoubtedly be a jf>e{ft^^laudal»^^nie''v%^nt > for the ■district^' "'"" '" r! ■"• 1 -
