The session lasted twelve weeks, 161 public Bills wern introduced m one or both Houses ; 76 being passed, 1 other Bill being reservod for the Royal assent of Her Majesty, and 48 Billstailing to pass for various | opuses, chiefly want of time. Tho [ tower House originated 137 ot these Billo, and the, Upper House 24, these latter being mostly introduced by Government into the " Upper House first for convenience. Four private Bills were introduced, 3 being passed. The petitions presented were 543, of which 74 were from Maons. Questions put to Ministers were 645 m number. The sitting days numbered 58, the hours of sitting being 432, showing a daily average o< about saven and a-half hours. T' e Legislitiveß Council's sittings were very short on the average, and wernon fewer days than those of the Lower House, which neces-arily requires much longer time to get through a given quantity of business, by reason of thp greater tendency of discussion of principles and details. No less than 409 reports were made by Select Companies, most of the Lower House.
