NATIVE NEWS.

— -" ♦ THE MURIMOTQ IMBROGrLIO. STOPPING OF TffE SURVEY • ■:-■"' PARTS,;'"' >• -' ■ FORIHER PARTICULAR.. * f Friday's Herald.) ' ° Mr Rochefort, who was the hero of the arrest by natives up the river, ar» rived m town yesterday afternoon, but was very reticent as to the details of the affair. He however, speaks ot the country through which he passed m high term?, it being level and presenting no engineering difficulties through* out. In reference to the stoppage of the party, we understand that the affair has arisen out of a misunderstanding, and that if Mr Rochefort was to return now, there woula be no obstacle placed m his way. ,He had got through his survey with the exception of the last 8 miles, when he was arrested. ' It appears that the party had a letter from Kemp and Hoani, which they took with them to the N.atives. higher up, recommending them to allow the survey to proceed. The Natives, however, belie ye the letter hot to be genuine, and took the party under arrest, meanwhile sending down to Kemp enquiring, whether it was correct. He sent back' to the effect that it was all right and that the party were to proceed; but m the meantime the Natives had sent Mr Rochefort and his party away j and - ! it is supposed . that the surveyors and Kemp's letter must have passed on the road. The inference therefore is that it was purely; a misunderstanding, and that there will be no future obstruction.
