PROSPECTS OF SUCCESS.
The Wellington Meat Preservinff and
Refrigerating Company, whose prospebtus appears m another column, are disposing of their shares yery well, the directors themselves working with a will. Mr Donald Fraser has just been on a tour up the Coast urging the interests of the Company, and he has been everywhere well received. We (Herald), understand that Mr Rotherham has offered to run light stock trains from Manutahi to Foxton to suit those forwarding stock to the Wellington! freezing works. For this purpose he'has had the necessary trucks constructed and excellent yards built at Patea for receiving or landing stock for shipping,;, also at Manutahi for re. ceiving. These trains will be run through the whole distance m about eight hours ; while by driving, the trip would take several days, with an increase of cost • and the Railway -Department offer to land the stock at Foxton at about 9s perliead. These arrangementp only require to be known to be availed of, and the stock traffic should develop very largely. The only thing now required to complete a facility of communication is the prorfs'on pf a oattle punt over the Manawatu, at Foxton. Some years ago severs! Rangitikei settlers offered to share with the Government the cost of erecting such a punt, 'Government to collect the
dues ; and we understand tbut the elUogton companies are each now willing to contribute about £100 towards its 1 cost. Considering that such an important matter as the construction of a bridge over the Manawatu has been so long delayed, the least Government | r.an do is to render Borne assistance m ' I so worthy an object
