The foundation throughout is of solid granite, the remainder of compact masomy. At intervals jof between 200 and 300 yards, 24ft. m diameter. On .the. top of the vail, and On 'both sides 'of it, are masonry parapets, to^nable the defenders to pass unseett from, one tower to another.
