Manawatu Standard (PUBLISHED DAILY.) Suivant la verite. MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 1883. A PROMISING ENTERPRISE.

We directthe attention of our readers to the notification, advertised m another column, of the formation of " Thej^ellington Meat Preserving and Refrigerating Company (Limited)," with a capital of £50,000, m 5000 shares of £10 each. A. strony provisional directory has been formed, the names of the gentlemen specified being such as to command respect and public confidence ia the stability of the undertaking. The pro"pose to purchase the businesses of Messrs J. and H. Barber, au4 of Woods, Orosbie, and Co., and carry them on upon an extensive scale, probably adding the refrigerating process to that of the preserving of meat, and reserving their right to amalgamate with any other company m case of need. As a Wellington paper points out.the business of Messrs J. and H. Barber is an oldestablished and profitable one. Indeed many years ago they, together with Messrs Ge^r, were the purchasers of nearly all the best cattle which came to this market, They are so confident of the success of the new undertaking—-especi-al lv a8 it has been ascertainfld that such a bujinesß a* that proposed can be more j

I The combin-d businesses already show a net profit of 15 per cent, and it is confidently expected that even this excellent rate will be exceeded. Altogether, the prospectus of the Wellington Meat Preserving and Kefrigerating Company ] seems a highly promising one. The j Gear Company has already proved a decided success. To an undertaking cf this kind the country districts should extend a liberal support, and we have reason to believe that the co-operation of Manawatu will not be solicited m vain.
