At. the New Zealand Shipping Company's annual meeting the Chairman stated that the steamers and three sailing vessels had taken away 49,690 frozen sheep, and 25 000 were now loading m the British King and Catalonia, ihe Company was getting three new steamers, the first of ..which was to be launched on August 22) and to be, named the Tongariro, a model of Which was" before the meeting. Her speed was to be 12 knots at sea, and she was to make the passage under 50 days. Thepassenger faffic was m., _erea I sin§r,-ana the lonic had 150 paying thiidßclass passengers, all desirable immigrants. The^ refrigeraiing wcrks had not been able to supply a sufficient number of carcases, but, with: the increased facilities now being afforded,. they could load three thousand' a day.He regretted the lose ot the Waitaia, but the loss was covered by insurance. Since tTune last year, 60 vessels had been sent from, home, of a total of 68,541 tons net register, carrying 96,541^ tons cargo, and 2222 paaseiigers. They sent Home 46 ships; 'bf 42,664 tons , register, with 341 passen-* gers.
