» A meeting iv Committee of the Mana watu and Oroua County Councils waß held at the County Cnambers, Poxton, yesterday, when the following Councillors were present : • Oroua Council— Qrs Macarthur, (chair, man;, Lin ton, D OU gi a s, and Skerman. | Manawatu Council — Ors Thynne ! (chairman), Davis, Hadfield, Walker, , McLennan, and McKenzie. i Having read the minutes convening the meeting for the purpose of adjusting accounts between the two Councils, Or Thynne briefly stated that he would like to see Councillors go th ough the business and settle the adjustment m an amicable manner. He then read the statement of assets and liabilities of the several Ridings of the Manawatu County Council. , ..•-•, , ...?. . ... , Or Macarttiur read a similar statement for the Oroua County, after which he said that himself and Or Thynne were fairly agreed on, most points with reference td the draft of adjustment to be laid on the table. Cr McLennan asked for an explanation asjo aa item of. £179 ' appearing against his ridiug. The clerk explained the matter stis/actorily . The following report was then read, and after discussion it was agreed that each Council should pass a resolution m ratification of same :— Rl-POKT. Of Committee for adjustment of accounts between the Manawatu and Ornos County Councils— Your Committee beg to .make tne fallowing recommendations . Ist.— That all applications for grants for works within the Oroua County made by the Manawatu County Coun* cil, be transferred to the Oroua, County Conncil, and that the latter, with t;e consent of Government issue the debentures for same, and deal with the whole matter as if the applications had been made by thpt Council m the first place. 2nd.— That all contracts and liabilities before the 30th June; 1883, and engagements made or incurred by the Manawatu County Council for works within the Uroua County become con-" tracts, engagements, and liabilities of iM . Oroua Council. . . . 3rd.— That cash Council take ovor ' its own Ferry leases with their engagements and property appertaining'thereto, the .Oroua' County Council taking over the Gorge Ferry, and the Mao* awatu Council the Fox tori, and other ferries m the Manawatu County.; i 4th.— That ' the Oroua Council take over the Engineer, Mr Bray, and pay him any monies due to him for. salary since July Ist 1883. sth.— That all plans, estimates and specifications whether under the Roads and Bridges Constraction Act, or otherwise, and of works within the Oroua County, be handed over to the Oroua; County: 1 That the Mattawatu Council take the, offices, furniture, and other assets connected therewith, costing m all £725 at J8650, paying the share'of such' £650 contributed, namely : — £355 17s 7d,by the Ridings nL-w constituting the Oroua County, and th it the Oroua County take ovor the Gravel reserve Palmerston, allowing fcha Manawacu County £250, the share contributed to the purchase thereof by the Southern County . Bth. That the Ornna County take over £1290 10s 7d of the existing overdraft, the Manawatu County taking the remainder, subject to the approval of the Bank of Australasia. 9 th. That the tools used by the roadmen m the various ridings belong ; to; the/County m which they now lie. j 10th, That the Oroua County take over the control of the Oroua aad Awahuri ".Bridges, and that applications be made by both County Councils to the Hon. Minister of Public Works to vest the control m the. Oroua County Council. :> ; $jj[Htb. That the Riding Books and Valuation Rolls belonging to tho old Ridings, Xaonui, Manchester, and Kiwitea, How constituting the JS or them County, be handed over to the Oroua Council. ■ | 12th . That an agreement be drawn up embodying the above conditions which, after ratification by the two Councils shall be considered as h'nal between the two Counties, each County paying one half of the.cost, if any,attendiijur gnch transfer and certificate. . , by Chairmen of both County Councils. , i
