At a general meeting of chare_o!der- •. th- Pioneer Diamond Concpany, t>tii.^ht, Kelsey's iast cabl* wa-5 read a tollows : — " Gre*h authority says re "■■ i^ed deceptive : suggests immpilin' sin kins; for larger specimens, wiiich for <yard to me reply : sharply ; also when sent " (sic). This is a continuation oi the reply to a telegram from Christchurch, as follows :— " Most importan you should t legraph imtneliately an•tones diniron ts definite. Use your •od-V' The first part of the reply be ing, " Diamonds have been tested by odmpetent authority, who declares fair proportion genuine ; cabling the result ot the cutting on Friday, and the val*. ne," it is taken to mean that though the diamonds are genuine, the outi ng has reduced the siz? so much that the value could not be ascertained. It is thought Kelsey would notha ye gone to the expeusiof cabling, as he as done, a full message not using the' code., or recommended the expense of deeper sinking, were the stoiies not diauinnds.
