A Remarkable Case.
A jtrange_caae_came b6t'ore -the Wellington R.M. Court a few day 3 ago. A man named r Alfred , Kickman was proceeded against , for. the support of a woman ' alleged to J& hik mother, ' who had been an inmate of the Lunatic Asylum for the past ,26 years. The defence alleged that there were grave doubts whether . the defendant, was really the son of the woman m the asylum, who had destroyed her infantjchild since she was placed there. The defendant himself could not remember anything about his maternal pa-ent. He was then responsible for 30s a week fur the maintenance of his putative father. Judge* rnent was given m favour of defendant. His Worship said that the evidence I showed that the defendant was aft illegitimate child, therefore, he should dismiss thesumm^ns. A mother is compelled to support her illegitimate child till that child arrived at the ageof 14 years, and that child could inherit the mother's property ; but he considered that, m the case of illegitimacy, duties were not imposed so far as paternity was concerned. — —____»
