The Southland Times learns that the Members of Assembly Expenses Bill to be brought m by Government proposes to fix the honoraium at £800 per annum. The Times denounces the proposal and says : — " Make the honorarium £800 a year, and you create at once a class of trading politicians, the very worst class that can infest the country Thi- sum will be a little fortune to a needy demagogue, an'i he will move heaven and earth to securo it. We know how easily the people are gulled by this i sort of adventurers, and we see how, by taking possession of Victoria, they havumade politics there a hissing and a byword. We earnestly hope that the Government will be induced- to alter itsdetermination, and, to assist this result. that the prtf*, from end to end of tb colony, will speak out against the scheme t8 we have iust had it dr. ulged to us.
