That Select Ball.
WHO PATS THE ri^ ( diElbwN: A laughable story is going the rounds just now. It appears that some 1 Weeks ago the lessee of one of oar public halls entered iDto anj arrangement to hire the hall for"select quadrille" parties. The tirst was dnly announced, but only four couples presented themselves, 'The lesee was m attendance with a big hew wh-box, (not the one that was lost and found) under his! arm, m which to carry home the half-crowns. History do b not record whether the four conp'es ianced or not ; perhaps they did and oerhaps they 1 didn't. However"; : time went on, and the other promoter of the v ; ele6t" winter hj>ps applied to the lessee* of the hall for the price of his ticket— half-a-crown. A set-off was lodged for lalf contingent | experises, ; which the promoter repudiated;* Anli then the loint promoters became angry with each >ther, and Bpoke their minds freely, and ill about half-a-crown. By degrees the got wind, and the lesgee fires up vhen any sly reference is made to ' select quadrille parties, while the other promoter has charged the half-crown^to ;be profit and loss account, and puzzles us brains how he is to reimburse himelf.
