INTERPROVINCIAL. - • ■ » (UNITED PEBSB ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 19. The Danedin Gbol Commissiunen continued their inquiry at Mount Cook gaol to-dayi Warder Proctor was the first witness. He was m Danedin from 1869 to 1882. He had seen prisoners roughly handled by Mr Caldwell. The feeling between the officers of the gaol was not good. Prisoner Piummer deposed that Aicoofe, a prisoner, died one night while being taken iron* his cell to have a bath, which had been ordered by Mr Oaldwell. He had often seen Sergeant Watson, a warder, drank. Oa one occasion witness and a gaoler sat far into the night drinking brandy and smoking. Mr Caldwell ur^ed-him to deny having written a letter to the Minister of Justice. Witness did write something, but was too muddled to know what. Another prisoner and the chief officer m charge of Mount Cook Gaol were also examined, their evidence being unimportant, and the Commission adjourned until to-morrow. Christohubch, July 19 The New Zealand Electric tight Oompanv have obtained from the Harbor Board an extension of time for their trial of the electric light for Port Lyttelton.
