A NOTE OF WARNING.
The travelling correspondent of the Wanganui . Yeoman has the following sensible remarks on the prejudicial effect of fabulous prices ruling for land ia
nt-wly settled districts. He remarks, writing on matters at Woodville :-»> " When suburban and country land is spiling as high as £15, £18, and £20 per acre things ou,rht to be active, and they cc t linly are; but this is attributed to the speculative element which sees nothing but prosperity m. the future, vith yet increased value to be added to that at present ruling f r the (and m »V district. The va'ue is fictitious, and t wou'd be much better for the district wer* the fallacy of the high prices off t ma realised, and land transactions place on a more equitable basis. The residents themselves know and feel this, as they express themselves of opinion that the existing state of things is detrim ntal to the present intoroßfc of the township." . The Standard was once denounced for expressing similar vievvs ■-vftli'regnrd to the price of land ruling m and around Pnlmprston, and the tendency of fictitious v<lu s prevailing! o Iprjdu-.fl inevitable reaction, and sevensubsequent depression.
