A Cause of Insanity.
The London Medical Record givps the following instance of how domesticity may be c* cause of insanity. Mrs M , aged forty^four, mother of eight children, has acute mania. The husband, when asked if he conld suegcst any cause for her illneßS, exclaimed with much animation that he could not conceive any reason. "Sb 6 is a most domestic woman ; is always doing some* thing for her children , is always at work for us all ; never goes out of the housej even to church on Sunday ; never goes gadding about at the neighbours' houses, or talking from one to another , has been one of the best wives and mothers, and is always at home." The superintendent of the Hartford Retreat for the insane (from the report of which institution this case is taken), m commenting on it says : " This appreciative husband could hardly have furnished a more graphic delineation of the causes of his wife's insanity had he understood them ever so thoroughly."
