Several readers and correspondents have made enquiries as to the nature of the Bill before the House, dealing with certain proposed modifications of the Education Act. The Bill m question was introduced fey Mr M. W. Green, is entituled «An Act to provide for the moral training of the young m the Public Schools," and as it is a very short Act we give the two main clauaefl :— "2. This Act shall read together with " The Education Act, 1877," and the provisions of the said Act shall be construed m harmony with this Act. 3. The committee of each school district shall appoint special periods during school hours, not to exceed thirty minutes, at which Bible-reading lessons shall be given under the supervision of the teacher, and also for the inculcation of lessons m morality ; b u j; no denominational religious teaching shall be given! during such lessons. The periods appointed shall be either at the opening! or close of school hours. No child shall; be permitted to be present at such lessons whose parent or guardian shall have objected thereto m writing.
