Our Petroleum Re-SOIJKOE-5.
The Lyctelton Timed of Jane 11 says: — " Mr Foster, who has been engaged by the Southern Cross Petroleum Company to cod act. the boring operations at the works ab Gisborne, arrived m Christchurch on Wednesday last, and proceeded to Gisborne on Thursday, to commence boring operations immediately . The reports received from the works during the past month, before Mr Foster's' arrival, are of an encouraging character. Large . quantities of paraffin mineral are found to exist on the company's ground, containing here and there ' pockets of pure oil. Several casks of pure paraffin batter are now en their way to Christchurch, and arrangements have been made by the directors to test its value for candW. making and other purposes for which there is ; much demand. The company intend most probably to start a second bore m another part of the ground as soon as possible, and the question ot oil or no oil seems likely to be now very soon tested.''
