Opening Parliament.
I opened this aftefnoon jat'two' o'clock by His ! Eiceltency the iGoyernor. The usual Btate'ceTent6ny (Wias^obseryed. The Wellington, Guards ; took up* position as a guard of honor >t the entrance to the Legislative Council Chamber, and when His Excellency with! his suite left Government House at two ; o'clock, tlfe I) Battery of Artillery fired a salute, the field guns being placed on the, reclamation northward of the Kailway citation; The Garrison- Band played the National Anthem as His Excellency approached the entrance to Parliament Buildings* - 'The Governor's Speech, as prepared by Minist rs, w»s read by Her Majesty's Viceroy from the dais Jwhich serves Jin; lieu of a throne ; and, thoagh the Legislative Chamber was not crowded by. members of the two Houses, the galleries were closely packed with spectators. The opening ceremony terminated- with the ;readinig of the Speech, j, The approaches to Parliament Buildings were lined with spectators, to ! witness the " pomp and circbmstanca " ■, of the regal procession, ' "** ;
