Sir J. O'Shanassy's DEATH.
[ The death of Sir John O'Shanassy,' ! whiah took place on the afternoon of May sth, although not unexpected, caused some sui prise as well as deep regret m Melbourne. About three months ago a blister appeared on the -big toe t)f deceased's left foot, consequent on some slight irritation caused by his boot. Sir John to>k little or no notice of the wound at first, bat about a week after its appearance it assumed a Tery angry aspect, ond Dr J. P. Kyan, who has. baen Sir John's medical adviser for years past, was called m. Remedies were applied, and extreme caution enforced, but the wound grew woroe, aud presented a gangrenous appearance, but still remained located m the toe, tha line of demarcation being clearly defined. A boat Thursday, however, the wound showed manifest signs of spreading up the foot and; leg and Dr Fitzgerald was called m and a cousultation took place, when the casd was regarded as hopeless. The progress of mortification was aggravated by the fact that deceased had suffered about three years ago from diabetes, the after effects of which nearly always produce a tendency m any woiiDd to mortify. The system of the deceased 1 gentleman was also low, -the action of the heart being weak. Oir Friday night Sir Jobn became unconscious, and remained so .until his. death. ..On ,Saturday : morning the rites of the Church were administered <to~ the dying ~ man by the ft man Catholic Archbishop, Dc Goold. A Bojemn ihi^h 'mass -washer formed at St. Patrick's Cathedral at eleven o'clock on Friday, for the repose of tha goul of deceased, who was buried m the afternoon with great ceremony. "
