That Melrose is neither a fit or proper place for a public Cemetery. 2nd. / Thai this; meeting is of opinion that a barefaced injustice is attempted by certain parties,, .and ,we pjedge^ ourselves to upset, the whole thing ;. and JurtherVto employ detectives to hunt up the conspirators. 3rd. That it is neither right nor proptei 1 that the human family should lay side by-sidsr with the DigUt-soil" deposit: 4th I . 'That we farther .wish. .to. protest and censure the City Coiincil for their abti^ttin this mater. ff&i 1 That the City Council sboW've'ry fihahcing' J a!)ility m pro" posing to pay principal and interest; m ten years,' which means £800. a year from the rates, now too little for neces?, sary works. 6th. r lfhat the proposers qi this dirty transaction ip |he idjityiidpuncil be compelled' to pay all expenses for advertising, and then — placo "theif resignations m the han^s of the>Town ; ! Clerk. 7th. That we see Dr -JDiviß's little scheme of re-selling part of Melrose, as a blind to get the ratepayers to sanction the job." It is evident that public opinion m Wellington is strongly adveseto any action of the Municipa" body that can be rightly v *cßftras6erized ap jobbery or log-rollin|:.^_When, the ratepayers are thuß vigilant andaliTe to : their own interests, their representatives : m the Municipal Council will eventually have to recognize their responsibility to public. opinion, and will, apt accordingly.
