The Manawatu Bar.
: From a, Wellington paper we learn the steamer JjanejDouglas arrived m that that port oh Tuesday : after an absence of nine days, during which period she has been bar*bound at Foxton. She crossed the Manawatu bar at 8 a.m,, and experienced light southerly winds during the rua. down. Captain Fraser informs us that a heavy fresh came down the river shortly after his arrival which lasted for several days. During that period and until Saturday last there were, also considerable surf. The Channel across the bar has altered very much for the worse having assumed tb.6 shape of a'horseahoe. A vessel leaving the river has to stand first tp the NW, and gradually wear ; round : to within a point of Kapiti m order to keep m deep water. As she would have to be broad-side-on to the surf most of the time, it will easily be understood that it is not advisable to venture m or out' during rough weather. ; ;"
