AGRICULTURAL LOSSES.
The circular of the N.Z.L. and M. A. Co. for the month of April says :— ln order to realize how sadly the bright harvest prospects of January have been blighfed by continuous rains; it is only necessary to run through the southern districts or to visit the grain stores, and there witness the immense quantities of grain which are not threshable, or which having passed through the machine are quite unfit for shipment.; What promised to be the grandest harvaafc ever, gathered has culminated m serious loss to many, and m disaster to not a few. The antumn has been unprecedentedly wet, retarding work at every stage of operation from stacking to shipping, with the result that thousands of tons are renderei unfit for food. Because of the larger beadth m wheat, this crop has suffere 3 to the greatest extent, and though much might be rendered marchantibie by manipulation, only a small portion can be so treated for want of the necessary appliances and. accommodation.
