British Queen ImmiGRANTS.
The arrival of aiargeTinmber. of independent ancf rtent immigrants including no less—thfln .110 single womeii^ «>jMhe steamer British Queen naturally attracted a good deal of attention ihliown,'and when the 'vessel came alongside the wharf on. Monday afternoon there was really no elbow-room for thoee who actually had business, and were anxious to g^t aboard; Captain Nowell and his officers, apparently, have a very lively- recollection of the manner m whicfpimttigrant ships are rushed m American ports, and orders { were^ therefore i'giy en "to allow no one abotfid^wjept' : ■ who were in' va position to say that they had business. From 3 o'clock till sunset the large T on,tbe, southern^ide of ihe wharf ! was the centre/of attraction for the townsjpeople/ and when, about $5 o'clock, 5Gf single women were brought" aßh' of d^ta be* marched up to the Mount- Coojcv; Barracks, there ? was more than- , ordinary eicfte^ent;, nofc banker being exchanged .between the arrirale and those who had, apparently, come to gratify, their .curiDßity about thern^ jSo far as tne physique .and general appear* ance of th^iDomjgrants are. concerned, we think there is_. only one verdict, namely, that a finer looking set^of. men women ancT children have not landed m the port since the Public Works and Immieration, Policy was inaugurated . That they will be readily absorbed' is opea toWCoubt whatever. Each of the,siDgle~women has, on- the average, the choice of several situations, and the men are, apparently/ finding no difficulty m making a start m the colony.
