(UNITED PB ESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunediu, May 11. j At the Police Court yesterday Cornelius John was committed for trial for forgery, by having altered a cheque for £7 17s to £87 17s. The allegation was that, being' partner with one Evans, Johns, after Evans had signed the cheque, altered it as stated. . A man named Thompson has been arrested here on a warrant from Wellington for larceny as a baillee. He was travelling to Melbourne under the name of Brown. The Harbo/ Board yesterday refused to take cognisance of a resolution recently arrived at by the committee of the Chamber of Commerce recommending a total change m the constitution of the Board. They duly forwarded a reply that they would be happy to consider any suggestion on thVsribject made by the Chamber as a whole. The committee's recommendation was that the Harbor Board should consist; of appointed skilled men, paid for their services. . The Harbor Board to-day Bgreed to accept the resignation of Captain Thompson, the harbormaster, and to place on record its recognition of his valuable and lengthy seivice, to ask him to remain m the service three months after his successor is appointed to instal him into his duties, and to present him on leaving with a bonus of £300, The steamer Fenstanton saied yesterday with a fu'l cargo of wool and grain and 7840 sheep, and fourjbags of duck*. There are 22 different shippers of meat, which was all frozen by coal Refrigerating Companies. The average weight per carcase is 67^1bs, with 200 carcases. The new experiment has been tried of sending home only the prime parts, namely, the saddles and legs. It Js likely four more steamers will be despatched from here during the year with frozen meat.
