ATTEMPT To' DEFRAUD.
[bt telegraph. 1 (unites pbbss association.) Christohukch, May 10. David Stranaghan, who was arrested about midnight en a charge of setting fire to premises m Victoriaostreet on May 1, with intent to defraud the Standard Mercantile Union, and Colonial Campanies was brought up this morning before the Resident Magistrate. He had sent m proof of the loss of stock, £1500. A witness m his employ stated that tbe total value was only £700. While this- witness was giving evidence the accused tainted. He was remanded till Tuesday;
