The following report from the Inspector ot Nuisances was read at the Blenheim Council meeting the other evening : — "I have tne honour to say thafc'l do not think barbed wire a nuisance. My reason for this is that it prevents idlers from sitting on the fences and passing rude and impertinent remarks on females and other i respectable persons passing by." The will of the late Mr Goately, the Auckland benefactor, is likely to be disputed. At yesterday's meeting of the Wanganui County Council, it was resolved, " That m the opinion of this Council the dual system of local Government by County Councils and Boad Boards, m this County, is unnecessary, and expensive, and must soon lead to both County and I Soad Board rates being levied. This Council, therefore, strongly recommends the ratepayers to take action by petition, under the Counties Act Amendmetft Act of 1882, for the suspension of the Counties Act, and to hand over the Local Govern* reent to the Boad Boards about to be elected under the new Road Board Aot of 1882." : The Japanese Government has determined to establish 53 ,76Q primary schools. The Empire is divided intc eight departments one college to each. Children are to be compelled to attend the primary school.
