Western Australia.
Thejnews has been published (writes the Melbourne corrspoadenfc of the Ararat Advertiser) that a Melbourne syndicate has started tor Western Australia with a large number of sheep and cattle, with the intention of stocking an immense run there. That part of Australia is such a terra incognita that information concerning it is likely to be interesting. Nob long since I received a letter from a young fellow who had embarked m the be"ce-de-m.er and pearl shell fishery He has been very lucky, and turned his origiually modest capital into such respectable dimensions as to warrant his taking np J&nd. He has ma3e one or two trips inland, and describes the country as beiag m parts richly grassed, aud capable of rapidly fattening cattle. The timber, too, he opines won [d be specially valuable, and his surprise is that the various jarrah companies that have been started have not been successful. While, however, he feels sure th:tt there is a prosperous future before Western Australia, he would point out that a fair share of capital is required by those who may think of settling there. It must be remembered that the means of communication are scant, and that the markets will have to follow the raising of stock m this instance.
