THE MELBOURNE CUP.

Melbourstb, May 2. ~£i a meeting of the Victoriaj|acingClub to-day it iwas decided to add 1000 soys to the Melbourne Cup, making 1500 soys added money, and that the winner of the Victorian Derby must carry 71 bs penalty for the "Melbourne Cup.. It'was^also resolved to withdraw the Champion Stakes from, the *pyq-r gramme of the New Year's Day meeting and to substitute m its place tvyo races, to be called Bagot Stakes and Standish Plate the winner of the latter to receive 500 soys. ihe race for the Champion Stakes is hereafter to be run at the Autumn meeting m March, the added money being, as at present, 10^00 soys for the first horse, and 200 soWfor the second.
