The Hannah Barratt.
[Wellington Paper.} We have heard, farther intelligence respecting the late schooner Hannah Barratt which leaves no room for doubt as to her fate. The sea. beach. between the Heads and Terawhiti is examined at intervals by Mr Renner, and during his tisit there on Wednesday he found two miles this side, ot Oape Terawhiti, that part of he schooner's cabin-com-panion to which the binnacle was fixed. It was lying on the beach; nearly at low water-mark, and. with some difficulty he dragged it up. to high, water-mark. He also found a piece of the cabin pannelling. Mr..Benner is positive these were part of thrill-fated schooner. How^shecam^tO;. grief will,, we fear; remain a .mystery. When she left Wellington she beat out of port against a strong southerly breeze under whole sail, and Pilot Holmes, who watched her, thought Bhe was half loaded. Mr Lomman, of the outer, signal station, also noticed how well she stood up to it and worked; round Sinclair Head. At & p.m she was five miles to windward of the head, and then 'eased off sheets and kept away," having been just six hours from the wharf. We are also informed that Captain Renner was given to over ballasting, rather than the reverse. Perhaps the "moat : feasible theory of the schooner's loss is that she met her fate m the tide-rip off Tera* whiti. The ss Huia passed through it a short time before the schooner would, if she kept going from Sinclair Head, and her master states there was a tremendous : tide, quite seven knots, running against a heavy SE sea. .fjm rip and sea proving too much for herv she capsized and sank. *It is not probable tnat much of her wreckage will be washed ashore as she breaks, up, because she was bail! of heavy hard* wood. • . ; ■ . .
