At Oamaru, Ashburton, Timara, and Christchurch, the incessant rain Ins caused serious floods. The trains on the Canterbury-Of ago linea are interrupted, and several of the bridges are m a critical state. At Temuka.. a number of residents had to leave thfiir houses. At A.lbury a blacksmith's shop was washed away by the river, and a family named Couper barely escaped with their lives. At Washdyke several families had to be taken from their dwellings on horseback m the middle of the night. A considerable loss ot life stock is reported, aod will be heavier if the rain does not soon cease. ..
