Chbistohubch, This Day. Yesterday afternoon a uirl two years old, daughter of Mr T. Smith, of Rangiora Flour-Mills had a peculiar escape from drowning. She fell into the mill stream, and was taken out seemingly lifeless. Measures were adopted to restore animation, and on opening her mouth it was found full of half-mastic cated food. She was eating when she fell junto the water. This stopped the throat, preventing the entrance of water or expiration of air, - thus keeping her afloat. On the removal of the food the child showed signs of revival, and by night was recovered . DuNEDiN, This Day. David Riske attempted suicide by cutting his throat; with a knife at Waihoia. The wound is not dangerous. Mr Daniel Corrison, dispenser of the Tuapeka Hospital, was found dead m his bed on Thursday morning. The cause of death was heart disease. The deceased who was 44 years of age, had been dispenser m the institution for eight years. Wellington, This Day.
