ASSAULT ON" A CHILD. Robert Nixon was iudicced for having carnal knowledge of a girl named Agnes i Hall, aged 11 years and 6 mtmths, oa the 29th of December, Tha offence was alleged to have been committed about 7 o'clock m this evening m the office attached to Corps's mill, Makino Road, j near Feilding, the prisoner ani the gwl'a father beiag mill haada, and near neighbours. The defence was a total denial of the whole assault, indecent or otherwise, and that the charge was a trumped-up fabrication, though no motive could be assigned for it. The jury, after about 20 minutes' retirement, came into Court at 7 o'clock p.m. with a verdict of "/not guilty .V The prisoner was then discharged.
