Shocking Fatality.
A CHILD SHOT BY ITS' FATHER, (Wanganni Chronicle.) Mr "W. Kirkwood, the landlord of Red Lion Hotel, at Campbelltown, was engaged on Saturday afternoon, between 3' and ;: 4 o'clock, m shooting some, cojmmon house pigeons, which were pelted off the roof of , his stable. He haa^shbt two; and the third took .its flight Wcrbss the path by the side, of the hotel, and made for the hill on the other Bide» where there is a little cottage. Mr Kirkwttod who was standing by the Btable, and was using a breech-loading fowling piece, charged with No. 4 shot, j let drive at the pigeon, and at the same j moment Mr Kirkwocd's little son George, a fine lad of between 6 and 7 years of age^came ont" from behind the cottage (where he had been playing on the hill* side) > and received the contents of the gun fairly m the front of his body. The poor little fellow cried out lustily for his father, and actually ran some distance round the back of the cottage before he fell. On examining the body it was found perfectly riddled with shots; The little fellow was a bright intelligent scholar at thelnfantFchool,whichhehad attended Tor "nearly two yearis- past, and a favourite with everybody 1 who knew him. i. ..■::=' ■■:■.:■■■ ■ »■■■•■• Late* At the inquiry held this morning, the jury found a verdict of accidental death.
