CORRESPONDENCE.

BOTANICAL ROAD* (to the bditob of the standard.) - 6ib, — I desire 'to calk the attention of the ratepayers and the Borough Council to the disgraceful state of the 1 Botanical Road drain, from Ferguson -street towards the Lagoon. At present it is utterly for the purposes for which it was constructed. For a good of the way the drain is from 6 ito 8 feet deep with a batter of about £ Jo 1 ; consequently, whenever rain comes $he sides cave m, and stops the flow of the water, which at the present time is backed up within 6 inches of the surface m Ferguson-street. The engineering is exceedingly faulty, m fact, the greatest novice could not have made greater blunders, and the Work has been done inßucba manner that it is a disgrace to all 'concerned, and a complete waste of the ratepayers' money. There is a fence erected alongside the drain that ' for bad Workmanship is the worst I have ever seen ; there are some of the rails so splintered that they will 6oarcely bear their own weight, and their fitting ie a caution,. What are the Public Works Committee doing to allow such work ? There are men on it who ought to know better. It is a crying sin and Bhame to let the ratepayers be robbed m the manner which has been done m this instance. I call on the Council to hold a' full investigation into this matter, and I feel certain every statement I have made will be found correct.— -I am, &c, Ratepayer.
