Manawatu Standard PUBLISHED DAILY.) Suivant la verite. SATURDAY. APRIUL 14, 1883. IMPORTANT TO SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The Solicitor to the Wanganui Education Board, Mr S. T. Fitzhebbert, a gentleman of high legal standing, has given it as his opinion that the Halcombe' School Committee were not justified m their demand made to the J ate teacher, to remove the log-book from the school premises. The Committee claimed their right to the possession of the log-book, for use at their meetings or elsewhere, and the teachoi's refusal to comply with this ieqnest was made one of the grounds of complaint preferred by the School Committee a«ainst their late teacher. The Chairman and Secretary m their official capacity had made formal application for the log-book to be given up to them, and thus the dispute cam.; to be adjusted by the Board's Solicitor, whose opinion is adverse to the claim of the Committee, as he holds that the logbook ought not to be taken away from school premises either by the Committee, or the teacher, or anybody else, except, of course, when required to produce it m a Court of law. This quaestio vexata is, therefore, now finally set at rest.
