FLOODED WB A RYES. Halifax, March 10. i The tide rose during the blew, and was the highest; known here since the Saxby. gale. At 8 o'clock it was nearly on a level with the wharves and at 9 o'clock, when it was highest, the sea washed over many barrels of flour, meal and other merchandise m exposed places and swept them away, but no serious damage resulted. Between 8 and 9 o'clock, when the st rm was at itg height, the barometer, which m the morning registered 30. 40y and at 2 p.m t 30.10, stood 29 33 and was yet falling rapidly. The wind was then blowing at the rale of 27 miles an hour and apparently gaining m velocity. About 9 o'clock, however, it suddenly calmed down and property-owners and the people begun to feel more confident. St. John (N. 8.), March 10—10,30 p.m. It is raining and blowing hard. But few people are on the streets. Many of the stores closed early. All small vessels have been hauled into slips and put into additional fastings. On the bay the gale is very stiff, Specials to the Associated Press from all parts of the Northwest report light snow and winds at many points, but no very severe storms;' m Northern Minnesota high winds. and threatening -now; At Ishpetining, Mich., it is snowing and drifting badly. At Marquette lt.is blowing a gale and snow drifting badly ; weather- m Dakota clear. , ; A RIVAL OF WIGGINS. .; ELansas . City,. March 10.— In a private letter received m this city Tice, a St. Louis weather-prophet, . ridicules Wiggins' claims as a foiecaster of thi weather. Tice states that his own almanac predicts a severe storm between the l Oth and 14th of March, but he apprehends no general disaster.
