The returns for the Wanganui section of railway for. the four weeks ending 3rd March had reached the sum of £3,588, against £3,311, for' the corresponding period last year. The returns for the Wellington section have risen from £3,635 bo £4,278. Napier ia stationary. Auckland rose from £3,611 t0L6,282. Mr ,D Mi Luckie, Commisioner of Government Annuities and Insurance, arrived m Wanganui by last night's train. He had been on a visit to Marton, where he examined into the borough finances m cbnnection with the waterworks loan. It is stated that m a gold-field at the Transvaal the minimum yield is 16 ounces to the ton, while as much as 1000 ounces of gold has actually been produced from a ton of quartz. ■ ,
