The. debate on the clause relating to religions teaching m State Schools was adjourned. The Racing Club has removed .the disqualification from Murtagh, on the ground that he has boen sufficiently punished. '.; . . •. There wai a scene m the Court yester-, day between Mr Lascelles and Mr McLean, of Carlile. Tho former was understood to make a remark at which. Mr McLean took offence, and appealed to the Court for protection against the rej peated personal attacks of Mv Lascelles. The Court called upon Mr Lascelles to apologise, and adjourned. On reeunI ing iYI r Lascelles denied using the words Mr McLean had imputed to him, but if he used them he would withdraw them. The matter then dropped. " ■ The Harbour Board to-day considered the proposal of Mr Firth for a grant of land on lease on the harbour reclamation for the proposed meat freezing works, The following resolution was carried: — " That the Board views with favour the proposition mwde by Mr Firth, and is prepared to grant the sanie upon receiving such details of the company's scheme as will enable the Board to detei mine that the concession to be granted will not interfere with public interests." Hokitika, This Day. In the Supreme Court, civil jurisdiction, an action was brought to recover £100 damages for three distinct assaults committed by Mrs Perotti, of Greymouth Upon her servant girl, the daughter of R. Positch (plaintiff), of Canoe Creek, Grey District. A special jury was empanelled. The case lasted from 10 o'clock yesterday morning, the jury bringing m a verdict for plaintiff: for j I £275 and costs. • ■ ■
