The Speaker of the House of Commons vetoed a motion providing for the protection of the Houses of Parliament by a detachment of troops. It is currently reported m Continental political circles that Austria, Germany, and' ltaly have agreed to endeavour to avoid a conflict with Franco, but at the same time to ' join m repelling any attack that may be made by that Power (sic). It has been agreed between the English and Spanish Governments that Rodriguez and Costello, two of the Cuban refugees, who were surrendered to the Spanish Government by the police authorities, shall now be released, but that Maeeo, leader ot the Cuban rebellion, shall be detained m custody as prisoner of war. Washington, March 30. Intelligence has been received here that Apache Indians have taken up j arms and raided white settlements m I New Mexican and Arizona territories, j and have massacred fifty Europeans. The Apaches threaten -to annihilate the settlers, and Government has despatched a strong force of troops to the latter's assistance.
