Strange Incident.
THE POISONING CASE AT KAITANGATA.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) i (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, March 29. The following are the particulars of the poisoning case at Kaitangata : — Miss McCormiek was staying there' with her bro' her-in-law, Dr. Percy. She intended leaving for her home m Southland on JBYidny, 23rd instant, and on Thursday evening a few friends were invited to meet her. Whilst dancing; refreshments were handed m, and Miss ' McCormick took a tart, and no sooner did she take one mouthful than she cried out, •I am poisoned,' and ran to the doctor. He applied necessary remedies, and Miss McCormiek quite recovered. The doctor thinks she swallowed none of the poison, which, he concludes, was caustic soda, or corrosive sublimate. Nothing can be learnt as to huw the poison got into the tart, and the matter is now m the hands of the police. The tarts were of home manufacture.
