MANAWATU HIGHWAY BOARD.
A special meeting of the above Board was held on Wednesday. Present — Messrs Skerman (chairman), McEwen, Kngles, and Newcome. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Prom W, J. Hurst, asking permission to erect a bridge across a drain on Bunnythorpe Road. From Public Works Department, stating that £500 would be available to be expended on Fitzherbert main road only, from the bridge to the Gorfje. Mr Hoe was asked to call at the Government Offices, when m Wellington, and inquire as to whether tbis was a special grant voted on a petition sent last year, or whether it was the original vote of £500 for opening up roads m Fitzherbert generally. It was decided, after considerable discussion, to instruct the Engineer to prepare plans and specifications for the expenditure of the money m thoroughly making the road as far as the amount will allow it to be done— £) 00 to be expended between the bridge and Pratt's corner. Mr Engles asked that when tenders were sent m and not accepted, the amounts should not be published. •TENDERS. Proposed thatJP. Boesen's tender for No. 2 contract, Rairanga, be accepted, he agreeing to do 44 chains at £2 per chain and culverts at £12. Proposed that the tender of Thomas ! Corcoran, for No. 1 contract, Kairanga Block, ac 18s per chain, (£139 Is), be accepted. resolutions. : Proposed by Mr McEwen, seconded by Mr Engles, and carried— That m future the interest on che bank overdraft be charged separately to each Ward according to the amount they are overdrawn. Proposed — That Mr McEwen be allowed to expend £10 on culvert and formation on Hamilton's Line. Four accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned till the 14th of April.
