The following tenders were received for the Opaki contract, (formation and permanent way), Wellington-Napier railway :• — Accapted, O'Malby and Pepperel, Christchurch, £14,793 ; declined : Jay and Havnes, ffawera, £16,651 ; Shields and Oleary, Wellington, £18 987 ; Martin Danaher, Auckland, £19,750 ; Reese and Dawsou, Masterton, £20,642; Parker and Burke, Masterton, £22,461 ; T. P. Girwood, Mastert^n, £26,448. New Plymouth, March 20. The Alexandra correspondent of the Taranaki Herald has just wired : — " Mr Hursthouse left at 5 a.m. this morning for Moka.n. Wetere, Te Rerenga, and a party ot Mokau Maoris are taking him through. W ahanui and Rewi have agreed to the railway exploration and survey." Christohurch, March 20. •H. E. Pinching, chemist, of Kaiapoi, has been missing for several days. Search parties have been out, but can nod no- traces of lim.
