PROPOSED, PA.SIH4.KA MEETING.
TROUBLE BREWING.
(BY TELEGRAPH. "> (HERALD CORRESPONDENT. ) Hawera, March 16. The great meeting at Parihaka tomorrow is looked forward to with much interest by the settlers on the Plains. Tohu has sent to several chiefs of outside settlements asking the natives to attend at Parihaka on Saturday/ when Te Whiti would give his last word to them. Many consider the meaning of this is that he will tell them he had made a mistake, and found Government stronger than he. Threats on Te Whiti s lif i are consequently held out by a few desperate Natives, who consider themselves to be duped bj him, and the I Natives here believe the meeting tomorrow will be troublesome on the part of former followers. He has, however, still a large following. The next step to bs taken by Mr Brvce m regard to the stoppage of Mr Hursthouse m Waikato is anxiously awaited by settlers on tha Plains, who consider this the real emergency.
