A Sad Case.
At the Chester County Police Court, John Kenny, laborer,, was charged with stealing 39 lbs of coal from the London and North- Weatera Railway Company. Sergeant Leah, of the County Constabulary^ saw the prisoner coming from .!?* tn * to. 8 coa l itt his poßsession. Prisoner stated that he stole' the coal because The ms^h' want. The officer said he went to the defendant's house, and found there was neither food nor furniture m it; Three sacks were laid^bh ; floor,' ; ori° which they ' all huddled'' ! togettieria ; 6 night." When -'he (the officer) got ; th'ere : the : three children (boys) 1 were 1 efiting a faw r turnlp' for their breakfast} the only vestige of food in 'the house; an'd 'the wifeV who had : divided the turnip between the children, had reserved nothing lot herself. The bench said th'fe> case • was a sad one, but they were bound to protect* the property- ol ..the public, and as the prisoner had b?3n previously convicted, he would be sent to gaol for ten days.
