ARRIVAL OF TE WHITI AND TOHU AT OPUNAKE.
• ; . Opttnake, March 10. /; ThG steamer Stella, with, Te Whiti and Tohu arrived at 8 o'clock this morning. A large crowd of Europeans assembled on the- beach. Very few Natives were present, it not being generally known where they would land. They received a most demonstrative welcome from; the Natives. Te Whiti addressed a few words to them, and the party drove m a Government trap to Parihaka, accompanied by Col Roberts, Capt Messenger, and a Native Interpreter. Te Whiti and Tohu look remarkably well. : ; New; Plymouth, March. 10. Porihaka was almost deserted when Te Whiti arrived; the majority of the natives being engaged at work m the bush. : As soon as the news reash-d them, however, they lost no time iri assembling at Parihaka and greeting the chief with songs of welcome. A number of Maoris were assembled this morning at Parihaka from various directions, and it is stated that a 1 large meeting will be held on the 18th of this 1 month, Te regular annual meeting day, for the'pur* pose of inaugurating the meeting again, when representatives from all the tribes m the district are to be invited.
