At the annual meeting of the Standard Insurance Company held m Dunedin on Monday; laso, • the chairman, m Iris adress, said that this year's income e» ceeded the previous one by £4500, which was very satisfactory,, considering, the reduction of rates, and the fact that the Company 's operations had not extended during the year. The present competition was most, demoralising, an 4 only those connected with business can realise its extent.- The principle guiding certain competitors was to secure premiums; at; all; hazirds. ; In many cases the Company were ; obliged to let business pass rather, v; than accepi risks which leave no reasonable prospect of profit.
