THE LOWER GORGE FERRY.

We have heard the version given by Mr. Falloon, the lessee of the Lower Gorge Forry, m reference to the alleged "complaint by Mr Thomas Gilbert. On consideration, we deem it advisable not to discuss the question further m our columns. We think the proper channel is by means of formal complaint to the County Oouacil, when the matter at issue can be fully investigated. In fairness to both parties, this is' the best, course to pursue. Were we to give either version, we might unintentionally thereby prejudice the other side, which ■we nave no desire tb <?o, . We. should not be be surprised if the alleged grievance should prove to be the result of misunderstanding aB to what was actually said by the ferryman across the river to the travellers intending to cross. We i think we are pursuing the wiser course by allowing the matter to be dealt with by the County Council, which is the body responsible for the safe and efficient management of the ferry. When they shall have dealt with it, we may deem it incumbent to further refer to the subject editorially. Meantime, we hold the written statement setting forth the alleged grounds of complaint, as furnished to us, and signed by tne peison responsible, Mr Thomas Gil BERT.
