It w unlikely that the House of Representatives will accept so sweeping a change . 1 The feeling of hostility to Europeans appear to be increasing m Egypt. The Government of Madagascar has extended increased privileges to English residents and traders. The Affirmation Bill now befoae the House of Commons is a measure of general application extending to old members of Parliament. The Oammel Company at Sheffield have entered into a contract for 70,000 tons of steel rails for Sydney at £5 perton, if shipped at Maryportj op £5 8s at London. The Amsterdam Exhibition is all behind m its preparations. Victoria has secured an excellent court m the main aisle, opposite the New South Wales Court. The Victorian exhibits have arrived. The new American tariff has passed the Senate, an amendment for increasing the duties on wool being defeated. The Financial Reform Association of England has urged on Mr Childers, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the propriety of abolishing all food taxes affecting Indian and colonial industries. Mr Childers promised to consider the suggestion.
