Attempted Murder.
fBY TELEGRAPH.) (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin Feb. 23. John Doyle, a man following the occupatian of a. carpenter at a farm m the Lake Wanaka district, was arrested last<Thuraday on a charge of having fired a revolver at one Angus J. Robertson with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. It seems that the men were just about returning home between 11 and 12 o'clock on Wednesday night, when Doyle suddenly rushed out of his room with, a revolver, and presenting it close to Robertson's head pulled the trigger ; the cap snapped, but fortunately the chamber wa3 empty. Finding this, Doyle made a dash at Robertson's face with the weapon, and hit him a nasty blow. The revolver was taken from the assailant by a witness of the assault. On examination it was found that the revolver was loaded m three chambers, the others being empty. The hammer falling pn one of these latter undoubtedly saved Robertson's life, as the muzzle was hi Id within a few inches of his head. Doyle is now lodged m ,Clyde' Gaol-
