Serious Charge.
A young man named John Cooper Jowett, was yesterday arrested at Palmerston on a charge of indecently assaulting a girl, nine years old, a daughter of Mr A. Stubbs, of Wanganui. The offence is alleged to have been committed m Mr Stubbs's house, where the prisoner was lodging, on New Year's night last, during the absence of the mother at ihe Fancy Fayre, and was attended with circumstances too revolting for publication. The prisoner was taken into town last night by train. The Chronicle ssys the police authorities have been m search of the prisoner for some time past.
